STALEY, Tom

Age 90, was born in the Greenville, Ohio hospital June 10, 1935, to Catherine McVay Staley and Hugh A. Staley, who preceded Tom in death as did his son, Douglas Staley. Tom is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Jane Staley (Walker), son Gregory Staley and daughter-in-law Penny Staley, grand-children Lauren Brune (Staley) and her husband Nathan, Allison Staley and her husband Sebastian Chavez, Eric Staley and his wife Emily and great-grand-children Margo Staley, Willow Staley, Isabelle Brune, Haven Staley and Parker Brune. Tom graduated from Greenville High-School in 1953, served two years in the U.S. Army and received his B.S. degree in Industrial Arts and his teaching certificate from Ohio Northern University in 1961. He later received a M.S. degree in Industrial Arts and Vocational Education from Ball State University in Indiana. He spent 28 years in public schools teaching Industrial Arts and serving as the local Occupational Work Adjustment (OWA) Coordinator. His passion for over the past 36 years, however, was wood working and buying and selling antiques, collectables and pieces of local Darke County, Ohio history. He operated Staley’s Antiques & Wood Working in Arcanum, Ohio. Over the years, he actively participated in the Arcanum Lions Club, served as a member of the Arcanum Village Council and advised the Arcanum-Wayne Trail Historical Society. He was a HUGE Ohio State University – Buckeyes’ – football fan and enjoyed watching them play on television until his passing on Sunday the 23rd of November 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held at Arcanum’s Kreitzer Funeral Home the afternoon of Saturday December 20th. Visitation with family will be from Noon to 2:00 p.m. with service commencing at 2:00. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family kindly requests donations in Tom’s name be sent to the Arcanum Historical Society and / or the Arcanum Lions Club.
