TROUTWINE, Kurtis

Kurtiss (Kurt) A. Troutwine, born March 12, 1955, died peacefully surrounded by his family on March 31, 2025. Retired Arcanum Fire Chief Kurt Troutwine faithfully served the Arcanum Fire Department for 36 years before retiring in July of 2024. Kurt dedicated himself to serving others, both as a respected insurance agent and as the Fire Chief. Kurt began his insurance career alongside his father, Keith Troutwine, in 1988. A believer and follower of Christ since his childhood, he faithfully served at his church Greenville Grace Brethren, where he was a member for over ten years. He served on multiple county and state boards with the Fire Association and served as an instructor on Firefighting and Safety at Sinclair Community College and Clark State Community College for many years. Kurt was a cherished member of the community of Arcanum having graduated from Arcanum High School in 1973.

Kurt was preceded in death by his father, Keith Troutwine and father-in-law, Robert Goff, brothers-in-law, Steven Ganger and Kevin Rhodehamel.

Kurt is survived by a large loving family including his wife, Linda (Hartley) Troutwine, whom he married on May 14, 1988. Son, Brian (Lerin) Troutwine and children, Noah, Hannah, Leah and Sarah. His daughter, Jody (Matt) Fritz and children Landon and Layla. He is also survived by his mother, Lois Troutwine and mother-in-law Evelyn Goff; siblings, Vickie Rhodehamel, Deb Ganger, and Terri Alley; sisters-in laws, Tracy Matthieu, and Michelle (Allen) Batty. Additionally, he is survived by nieces and nephews: Zach (Kelly) Rhodehamel, Tricia (Jason) Cassel and daughter, Traci (Gabe) Greve and children; Beth Ganger, Jenny Ganger, Melanie (Dustin) Helman and children, Jonathan Alley, Megan (Jeremiah) Campbell and daughters, Austin Weimer, Kaylee (Conner) Brigman, Kara Arbogast and daughter, Karli Arbogast, Allen (Chelsea) Batty, Sam Batty, and Jack Batty.

Nothing made Kurt happier than traveling and camping with his family, a house full of guests to share a meal or enjoying a NASCAR race with his sons and grandsons. He was truly a selfless, faithful Christian man who loved God, his family and his community.

Services will be held at Greenville Grace Brethren Church, 4805 State Route 49, Greenville with Visitation on Tuesday, April 8 from 3 to 7 p.m. and Funeral Services on Wednesday, April 9 at 10 a.m. The burial will be at Greenmound Cemetery, New Madison, Ohio. Arrangements are being managed by Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Greenville Grace Brethren Church or the Cancer Association of Darke County in Kurt’s memory.

The family would like to thank all those who engaged in his care during his illness, especially the Premier Blood and Cancer Center at Miami Valley North Hospital in Englewood, Ohio.
