Charles Brumbaugh Obituary

Charles Ray Brumbaugh was born February 4, 1945 to Walter and Martha (Crist) Brumbaugh near Arcanum, Ohio and was released from this earthly tabernacle on the morning of November 21, 2019, making his sojourn here 74 years and 9 months.

On September 7, 1963, Charles was united in holy matrimony to Marlene King, daughter of Rufus and Zaida (Boone) King. They were blessed with 56 years together. Their union was blessed with three sons and one daughter.

On Thanksgiving Day of 1964, Charles and Marlene made a public confession of their faith in Jesus Christ and were baptized, making their fellowship with the Old German Baptist Church, to which calling they remained faithful.

On April 1, 1972, he was called to the public ministry of the Word along with Pete Cottrell in the Painter Creek district. They both were ordained to the eldership in 1983. Daddy and Mother enjoyed traveling and fellowshipping among the brotherhood.

Charles resided in the Arcanum, Ohio area most of his life. He spent two years in the Goshen, Indiana area when he was serving his 1-W service in the Goshen Hospital. Charles was a carpenter most of his life and worked at Brumbaugh Construction for over 30 years. He enjoyed finish carpentry.

Daddy enjoyed singing praises to the Lord, and could often be heard singing as he went about his work. We have many fond memories of singing together with him.

Around 2001, God had a different calling for Charles which we may never understand, but he accepted as God’s plan. He began to show signs of dementia and could no longer work or labor in the public ministry. He was confined to a bed for nearly 4 years. His loving wife patiently cared for him in their home until God called him home.

We thank God for the godly teaching, patience, love, and memories our Daddy gave us. Left to cherish these memories are his wife Marlene, his three sons: Kevin and his wife Rebecca, Delvin and his wife Karen, Mark and his wife Sarah; and his daughter, Amy Peters and her husband Trenton; and 27 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; as well as his mother, Martha Baker, one sister Phyllis Miller and her husband Gerald; brother and sister – in – laws: Marcella King, Leroy Holsinger, Ralph and Phyllis Brunk, Calvin Bowman, Louise Beachler, Ronnie King, Connie and Marlin Bowman, Rufus and Penny King; and step-brothers and sisters: Beverly and Ezra Wray, Lloyd and Renee Baker, John Baker, and Paul and Sondra Baker.

Preceding him in death were his father Walter, and step-father Howard Baker, father and mother-in-law Rufus and Zaida, an infant brother Jerry, and a sister Connie Westfall, infant granddaughter Cindy Brumbaugh, in-laws Paul King, Marjorie Holsinger, Mary Brunk, Beverly Bowman, and Ralston King, as well as infant sister-in-law Charlene King, and step-sister Mary Ann.

Daddy will be missed, but we trust that our loss is his great gain.
